This film is a fascinating portrait of how New York gangster Bugsy Siegel built The Sands Hotel and started a desert strip called Las Vegas on it's way to being the gambling capital of the world. The film was nominated for ten Academy Awards-- including Best Picture, Best Director for Levinson, Best Actor for Beatty, and Best Supporting Actor to both Keitel and Kingsley.
