The film follows three generations of women and the men they pick up for a crime spree. Jonathan Demme could have gone on directing films like this - and generating good roles for Cloris Leachman (!) - but instead he went on to being one of the Great Directors, lensing formidable concert films and corralling Hannibal Lechter.
