Product Description

Original MGM Three Sheet Poster (41x81). On two separate panels. Fine Plus.

This is an original MGM Three Sheet Poster (41x81) for the Nunnally Johnson war drama, THE ANGEL WORE RED (1960) starring Ava Gardner, Dirk Bogarde, Joseph Cotton, and Vittorio De Sica. Adpated by Johnson from the Bruce Mashall novel "The Fair Bride," this was the last film directed by the prolific screenwriter Johnson. It tells the story of a priest (Bogarde) who travels to Spain to join the Loyalists during the Spanish Civil War and falls in love with the beautiful Soledad (Gardner). Bogarde gives a dynamic performance as the tortured young priest who has lost his faith in the church but not his faith in God. Gardner is also very good as the cynical yet innocent entertainer and prostitute. The chemistry between the two is intense and believable. Both the Loyalists and the Franco rebels are presented as equally flawed and totalitarian. This original theater-used three sheet poster is printed on two separate panels and is in fine condition, with only some minor fold separations and some small holes.
