Warner Brothers Original Italian Four Foglio Poster (79x55) Folded Theater-Used Very Good Condition
Warner Brothers Original Italian Four Foglio Poster (79x55) for the William Wellman directed film BLOOD ALLEY (1955). The film starred John Wayne, Lauren Bacall, Anita Ekberg, James Hong, and Mike Mazurki. The film was made at the height of the cold war and concerns an American Merchant Mariner who is captured by the Chinese Communists and imprisoned. When he breaks out of prison, the film becomes an escape-suspense movie, more or less. When the Wayne character meets Cathy Granger, an American missionary played by Lauren Bacall, some romance is thrown in for good measure. The film was released on October 1, 1955 and was produced by John Wayne's own company, Batjac Productions. Robert Mitchum was intended for the Wayne role, but got into a disagreement with William Wellman. Then Gregory Peck turned the part down when it was offered to him. Humphrey Bogart was also offered the part, but his price was too high for Batjac, so The Duke stepped in. Too bad, because it would have then been another Bogart / Bacall movie. Whatever one might think of the film, this Italian four-foglio with terrific art by Alfredo Capitani is impressive. The poster was used in a theater, and the bottom part and top part have already been joined together. Colors are bright, but this poster would be even more beautiful if it were linen-backed. MovieArt Austin guarantees that this poster is an authentic Italian poster from the first release for this film. MovieArt Austin will sell no reproductions.
