20th Century Fox Original French Six Panel Poster (125 x 93) Folded Very Fine Condition

Original 20th Century-Fox Roadshow French Six-Panel Poster (125x93 inches) for the Joseph L. Mankiewicz historical epic, CLEOPATRA (1963) starring Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, and Rex Harrison. Originally this film was supposed to be two three hour movies-- the first dealing with Caesar and Cleopatra and the second with Antony and Cleopatra. But Fox, reeling from the exorbitant cost overruns associated with its budget debacle, decided to release one four hour movie instead. The result of this unfortunate decision is a spectacular film - spectacular in a way that digital effects cannot hope to match - with a less than satisfying narrative. Elizabeth Taylor's original contract stipulated that she was to be paid $1 million. But after a lengthy $50 million lawsuit brought by the studio against Burton and Taylor and then a countersuit by Taylor, the studio finally settled with the actress for $7 million. It is accurate to say that no film was more eagerly awaited that this movie, in large part due to the spectacular affair that the married Taylor and Burton had during the production. This is one of two major illustrations for advertising the film done by Howard Terpning. Please note that this poster is for the very first release of the film, the roadshow engagements presented in 70mm Todd AO. This poster is quite large. It is, in fact, the largest French size and was intended for use in subways. The six panel poster is quite rare, and the condition of this poster is excellent, graded as very fine. This poster is folded and is printed on six different panels which are joined together to present as one large poster. MovieArt Austin guarantees that this poster is an authentic French poster for this very famous film. MovieArt Austin will sell no reproductions.
