United Artists Original French Grande Poster (47x63) Folded Very Fine Condition

Original United Artists French Grande Poster (47x63). Folded. A beautiful poster for one of Chaplin's most personal films, LIMELIGHT (1952). The film concerns a comedian whose career is mostly washed up and his love and concern for a young dancer, played by Claire Bloom. She is suicidal, but facing their lives together they strengthen each other. The film is a poignant, affective movie. The movie was boycotted when it was first released because of Chaplin's leftist politics, being in the middle of the McCarthy witch-hunting period. Consequently it was a commercial failure. But over the years the film has gained an extraordinary reputation as one of Chaplin's most beautiful films. In 2015, The Criterion Collection issued a beautiful edition of the film on DVD and Blu-Ray. The only competitive Academy Award ever won by Chaplin, although he was granted two honorary Oscars, was for his work on the music for LIMELIGHT, which was, quite unusually, awarded in 1973 to Chaplin, Raymond Rasch and Larry Russell. The art on this wonderful, rather large poster is by Jean Mascii. MovieArt Austin guarantees that this poster is the authentic French 47x63 one-panel poster for this film. MovieArt Austin will sell NO reproductions.
