Republic Pictures Original Lobby Standee (32.5 x 58.5) Theater Used Fine Condition

Original U.S. Republic Pictures Lobby Standee for the John Ford masterpiece THE QUIET MAN (1952) starring John Wayne, Maureen O'Hara, Barry Fitzgerald, Mildred Natwick, Ken Curtis and Ward Bond. This item is extraordinarily rare if not unique. We have never seen or heard of another example of this standee being offered. John Ford bought the rights to the story over a decade before and tried to get every studio in Hollywood to make it. Finally, Republic agreed to do it on the condition that Ford first make a John Wayne cavalry picture, RIO GRANDE (1950). THE QUIET MAN tells the story of a disgraced American boxer (Wayne) who retires to Ireland where he meets Mary Kate (O'Hara) and falls in love. Wayne delivers one of his best performances as a regular guy with real feelings and emotions. The film was nominated for seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture. It won the Oscar for Best Cinematography and Best Director to Ford. The standee offered here folds to a smaller size and would be shipped flat, of course. General condition is quite suprprisingly good, as these standees have a tendency to get beaten up over the decades. Completely different art is used on the standee. An incredible item on a truly classic film. MovieArt Austin guarantees that this item is an original National Screen Service Lobby Standee for THE QUIET MAN. The standee has the NSS service numbers printed on it - 51/695 as well as the printer's union information. MovieArt Austin does not sell reproductions.
