RKO Original One Sheet Poster 27x41 Fine Plus to Very Fine Condition Linen backed

This is a beautiful original RKO one-sheet poster (27x41) for the 1934 film SILVER STREAK starring Sally Blane, Charles Starrett, Irving Pichel, Arthur Lake, Guinn "Big Boy" Williams, Edgar Kennedy and Robert Homans. The movie was directed by Thomas Atkins. This is a film about passenger train service, and is one of the most beloved movies about railroading. The film is loosely based on the the very real train The Pioneer Zephyr. The Zephyr was the ultra-fast, sleek passenger train of the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy railroad. RKO had initially wanted to use the superspeed M1000 train of the Union Pacific line, but the company declined. A plot involving several narrative lines, including espionage, a race against time, and general melodramatic elements was concocted to surround the real star of the movie, which was a model train. Exteriors of the real train were filmed in Galesburg, Illinois and it was in Galesburg that RKO chose to have the film's premiere on December 10, 1934. Here is a link to some interesting information about the train: . Even though critical response to the film was tepid, the movie nevertheless made about $100,000 after all was said and done. The poster is really quite good, and for this film, the one-sheet is clearly the best executed poster. It's a full stone lithograph. Only a few of these have surfaced. For years it was thought to be a lost poster, but a very few were found in The Netherlands. All of those posters bear a Dutch censor's stamp on the poster. This poster has been expertly linen backed. We regard the condition as very fine. MovieArt Austin guarantees this poster to be the authentic U.S. one-sheet poster for this film. MovieArt Austin will sell NO reproductions.
