Original U.S. Six Sheet Poster Linen-Backed Fine Plus to Very Fine Condition

Original RKO Six-Sheet poster (79x79) for the Allan Dwan film noir, SLIGHTLY SCARLET (1956) starring John Payne, Rhonda Fleming, Arlene Dahl, and Kent Taylor. The film was based on a novel by James M. Cain, who had already seen three of his books adapted for the screen in the 1940s: DOUBLE INDEMNITY (1944), MILDRED PIERCE (1945), and THE POSTMAN ALWAYS RINGS TWICE (1946). This story has a very convoluted plot about scheming and political intrigue in California. Payne plays a small-time gangster, and his twin temptations are Fleming (the mayor's girl Friday) and Dahl (a man-devouring kleptomaniac). Legendary noir cinematographer John Alton works in color here and introduces surreal bursts of lime green, burnt orange, and deep orchid into his otherwise bleak and dark trapezoids. This six sheet is an unusual offering, only having been seen once at auction. The poster has been linen-backed and is in very good plus condition with some modest restoration. Colors are vivid. Nicely done. MovieArt Original Film Posters in Austin, Texas guarantees that this poster is an authentic U.S. six-sheet for this film. MovieArt Austin does not sell reproductions.
