Italian 39x55. Folded. Reissue of 1961. Art by Gasparri. Very Good Plus Condition

Original Warner Brothers Italian 39x55, folded, in very good plus condition, for the Alfred Hitchcock mystery thriller, STRANGERS ON A TRAIN (1951) starring Farley Granger, Ruth Roman, and Robert Walker. Warner Brothers itself is the distributor for this 1961 re-release poster. You do my murder and I'll do yours. This is the nasty bargain that Farley Granger and Robert Walker make in one of our favorite Hitchcock films. There's a subliminal homosexual subtext from the fawning Walker and a snotty above-it-all knowingness from Granger that make this one of the most delicious and scary of Hitchcock's 1950s masterpieces. The story came from the novel by Patricia Highsmith, author of the equally lurid THE TALENTED MR. RIPLEY. This poster is quite simply, we think, the most dramatic poster we know of for this film. With sinister art by the wonderful Rodolfo Gasparri and an inset photograph of Hitch looking up from the bottom, there is little not to like about this poster. The poster was used in a cinema in Italy, and there are some small holes, some border tears and minor distresses. But colors are vivid and the image is not degraded in any significant way. This poster would be a great candidate for linen-backing. A wonderful poster for lovers of this film. MovieArt Austin guarantees that this poster is an authentic poster for this film, dating from the re-release in Italy of 1961. MovieArt Austin will sell no reproductions.
