Original RKO One Sheet Poster (27x41). Unbacked. Very Fine FRANCES FARMER

Original RKO One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Rowland Lee biogrphy. THE TOAST OF NEW YORK (1937) starring Edward Arnold, Cary Grant, and Frances Farmer. The film is, according to The Motion Picture Guide, an "entertaining though thoroughly distorted biography of carpetbagger turned millionaire 'Jubilee Jim' Fisk, which gives star Arnold a wonderful opportunity to display his solid acting ability." As might be expected, RKO employed some really decent talent to create a somewhat sanitized biopic of Fisk, who in reality was not a colorful avuncular playboy but rather a ruthless businessman whose schemes ruined countless lives during the "robber baron" epoch in which he lived and died. Edward Arnold gets to live in the skin that he used so successfully in DIAMOND JIM (1935) but he is also supported by the charm of Cary Grant, who is seen here just before TOPPER and BRINGING UP BABY would make him a superstar. And Frances Farmer, a subject of her own biopic, FRANCES, which starred Jessica Lange three decades later, gets to sing a couple of numbers. While it is a male dominated picture, the one-sheet deftly promotes Farmer up front. Very Fine Condition.
