Original Italian Locandina 13 1/4 x 28 inches. Very Fine Art by Enzo Nistri

Original Universal Pictures Italian locandina poster for the Alfred Hitchcock mystery thriller masterpiece, VERTIGO (1958) starring James Stewart, Kim Novak, and Barbara Bel Geddes. This Hitchcock classic tells the story of a former San Francisco detective (Stewart) suffering from acrophobia who investigates the strange activities of an old friend's wife, all the while becoming dangerously obsessed with her. Hitchcock creates some of his most hypnotic scenes in this film as well as a general sense of unease and dread-- even in seemingly banal situations. Bernard Herrmann's excellent score is a perfect complement to this complex and suspenseful story. The score is perhaps more important here than it most films, because much of the story is told simply with Stewart's and Novak's facial expressions and the music. Stewart gives one of the best performances of his career, and Novak is completely convincing in her dual roles. This original Italian locandina has impressive art by Enzo Nistri. The poster was folded but has been stored flat for some time. The fold lines are evident, but not prominent. There are some small tears in the border area, and one area of minor soiling. There are some pinholes, not many, where the poster was pinned. Color is brilliant, saturated. This poster could be easily improved with minor restoration. All in all, an amazingly beautiful locandina. MovieArt Austin guarantees that this poster is an authentic, vintage locandina from the first Italian release of this film. MovieArt Austin will sell no reproductions.
