Chadwick Studios Original One-Sheet Poster (27x41) Linen Restored to Very Fine
Original Chadwick One-Sheet Poster (27x41) for the film WINE, WOMEN AND SONG (1933) directed by Herbert Brenon and starring Lilyan Tashman, Lew Cody, Marjorie Reynolds, Matty Kemp, Paul Gregory and Gertrude Astor. L.E. Chadwick Productions 14 films between the years 1931 and 1941. This film was based on a play by Leon D'Ussear, who also wrote the screenplay. There is a detailed plot summary at the website of The American Film Insititue, but in general Tashman plays the daughter of a dancer played by Marjorie Reynolds. This is a kind of potboiler mother-and-daughter and the perils of the show business fast-life story. Tashman had a brisk career, playing in over 65 films from 1921 to her death in 1934. This poster was in need of restoration due to the delicate nature of the paper and so we have had it linen backed and it presents beautifully. There was some paper loss at the fold lines and signs of general aging. Lilyan Tashman was known as a player of a different type in Hollywood and had been linked romantically to several female actresses including Joan Crawford and Garbo. She was also sometimes given to violence and was once charged with assault when she beat up actress Alona Marlowe after catching her in her husband's dressing room. Tashman was married to actor Edmund Lowe. The poster is a stone litho and its insouciant graphics speaks for itself. MovieArt Austin guarantees this poster to be the authentic one-sheet poster for this film. MovieArt Austin will sell NO reproductions.
