And he was assisted by a host of important, prestigeous actors, including Teresa Savoy, John Gielgud, Peter O'Toole, Helen Mirren and tons of Italian players. The film is a big hot mess, produced by Penthouse Magazine publisher Bob Guccione. The stories which emerged from the set of this film were outrageous, and most of the actors tried to distance themselves from the movie. What started out as a script / idea by writer Gore Vidal, became a writer free-for-all, with even the actors chiming in with improvised lines.
