Paramount Pictures Original U.S. Title Lobby Card for the James Cruze directed western film THE COVERED WAGON (1923). The movie stars J. Warren Kerrigan, Lois Wilson, and Alan Hale. The story is about a group of pioneers who set out for Oregon, navigating the west through desert heat, mountain cold and attacks by Indians. It's a story that repeats again and again in western films, but this was the first time that it had been treated with such epic care. The real star of the film was the director, James Cruze (1884-1942.) Cruze was involved in over 100 films, and his fame came directly as a result of the expensive location filming of THE COVERED WAGON. The title card is a beautiful example of Paramount's sense of design in their early posters and lobbies.
