Republic Pictures Original One-Sheet Poster for the Joseph Kane directed B-Western movie, KING OF THE PECOS (1936). The film stars John Wayne, Muriel Evans, Yakima Canutt, Jack Curtis, Earl Dwire and Edward Hearn. The film doesn't get much of a viewer rating these days. It's fairly routine western faire. But this poster is anything but. This may be the best portrait of the young Wayne, athletic, handsome, with a touch of reserve. Five years before STAGECOACH would rescue a career that was stalling, Wayne was playing in westerns like these, looking good and maybe honing some skills that would one day become a brand. This poster was used in a theater. It is folded and we have graded it in fine condition. Linen-backing would be nice. Colors are vivid. For those of you who don't know that "Pecos" is, it's a river in Texas which is where this story allegedly unfolds.
