Original MGM group of 8x10 color lithographs for the Gordon Parks crime thriller, SHAFT (1971) starring Richard Roundtree, Moses Gunn, Charles Cioffi, and Christopher St. John. This film broke the mold of Hollywood African-American stereotypes by making the leading man a cool black private detective who is hired by a crime lord to retrieve his kidnapped daughter. In 1971 MGM was facing bankruptcy and thought that SHAFT might make a lot of money for the studio, and they were right. The film became one of the highest grossing movies of 1971 and opened the floodgates to a black exploitation renaissance of the 1970s. Isaac Hayes won the Oscar for the Best Original Song for his "Theme from Shaft." Two cards are included in this group. Please note that these are not the 11x14 lobby cards.
