Original U.S. One-Sheet Poster (27x41) 1968 Poster re-Marked 1970

Original MGM Style D One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Stanley Kubrick science fiction masterpiece, 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY (1968) starring Keir Dullea, Gary Lockwood, and William Sylvester. Based on the Arthur C. Clarke story called "The Sentinel", the film is essentially a story about evolution. Sometime in the distant past, something nudged evolution by placing a monolith on earth that imparts the knowledge of tool use to early humanoids. Evolution then enables mankind to reach the moon, where yet another monolith is deliberately buried and emits a signal aimed at Jupiter. Then, six astronauts (four in hibernation) and a very sophisticated computer embark on a journey to Jupiter in hopes of finding the source. The pace is slow with incredible attention to detail, which very realistically (and sometimes fancifully) envisions the future of technology. The special effects that were pioneered for this film are still breathtaking by today's standards. Kubrick's use of a classical music score creates a haunting atmosphere of awe, mystery, and intrigue. The film was nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Director for Kubrick and Best Screenplay for Clarke and Kubrick. 2001 did win the Oscar for Best Special Visual Effects. This original poster is rubber-stamped as 1968 on the reverse side, but is re-marked as 1970 at the lower bottom edge (fine print). This was clearly a theater-used poster and should be regarded in average used condition, showing fold lines but no fold separations, vivid color and modest signs of general wear. MovieArt Original Film Posters in Austin, Texas guarantees this poster to be authentic.
