Original RKO Jumbo Lobby Card (14x17) for the comedy derived from the very popular "Amos & Andy" radio program, CHECK AND DOUBLE CHECK (1930) starring Freeman F. Gosden (Amos), Charles J. Correll (Andy), and Russ Powell (Kingfish). CHECK AND DOUBLE CHECK, written by Harry Ruby and Bert Kalmar, in an era devoid of television, allowed for the first time their audience to see Amos and Andy and The Kingfish. The duo was so popular at the height of their fame and movies were often stopped mid-film so that the audiences would not miss the broadcast. Most of the radio audience did not realize that all the characters of "Amos & Andy" were all white comedians imitating the patois of black men, but the contrivance was undone when the main characters appeared in "black-face" in the movie. This film is also famous for featuring Duke Ellington and His Orchestra, presenting them to white audiences for the first time. This original jumbo lobby card is in very fine plus condition. RARE in any event, but jumbo lobby cards are unusual. A bit larger than the normal lobby card.
