MGM Original U.S. One-Sheet for the Stewart Rafill directed movie ICE PIRATES (1984). Originally titled THE WATER PLANET, MGM gave the film a budget of 20 million dollars. The cast was interesting enough, with Robert Urich, Mary Crosby, Michael D. Roberts, Angelica Huston, Ron Perlman, John Carradine and John Matuszak. MGM had big Star Wars type hopes for the movie, but it was not to be. Made at a time when MGM was changing studio heads, fhe producers were finding it hard to communicate with MGM about the direction of the film. The film took a kind of steam-punk look rather that the super fantasy sleek tech of Star Wars. The leading lady, Mary Crosby, is the daughter of Bing Crosy and Kathryn Grant, and she has had a long career in film and TV. The movie is little considered today, and is generally regarded as jokey among sci-fi fans. The poster has art by Steven Chorney.
