Most of the cast from the original production repeated their roles in this film with the exception of Dominique Dunne, who was murdered prior to the film's production. While the first film is widely recognized as a classic of the genre, this film rode the wave of the former film's reputation to succeed very well at the box office. Critical response was dismal.
