Original New World Pictures Review One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the James Ivory romantic drama, QUARTET (1981) starring Alan Bates, Maggie Smith, and Isabelle Adjani. Adapted from a novel written by Jean Rhys in 1928 based on her own experiences, it tells the story of a young woman (Adjani) who moves in with a married couple (Bates and Smith) following the conviction of her art dealer husband in Paris in 1927. She must endure the repeated attempts at seduction from the husband, which is strangely tolerated by his wife. Merchant/Ivory did a great job of revealing Paris in the late 1920s, both physically and emotionally. The film is packed with visual beauty and expertly evokes the "jazz age" in classy cabarets and authentic costumes. This original review sheet one sheet poster is folded and in very good condition, with some foxing and minor tears and fold distresses.
