This humorous look at the problems of a middle-aged, married man is arguably one of the funniest sex farces ever made. Left alone in New York City all summer while his wife and son are vacationing in Maine, Ewell meets the dishy Monroe and the fun begins. Of course, the film is famous for the scene of Monroe standing over the subway grate, but throughout the film the comic timing of Ewell and Monroe is flawless. Indeed, Ewell won the Golden Globe for Best Actor and Billy Wilder won the Outstanding Directorial Achievement award from the Directors Guild of America.
