The young son in the family, played by Mercurio, aspires to dance, but the new steps that he has made up do not comply with the Australian Federation of Ballroom Dancers approval. There is lots of dancing, of course, in this first feature of Australian director Baz Luhrmann. The film was the first in a trilogy of films known as Luhrmann's Red Curtain Trilogy (the other two are ROMEO + JULIET and MOULIN-ROUGE).
