Original Columbia Pictures 30x40 Translite Early Double-Sided Poster for the Franco Zeffirelli Shakespearean comedy, THE TAMING OF THE SHREW (1967) starring Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Cyril Cusack, and Michael Hordern. This brilliant adaptation of the Shakespearean comedy was co-produced by Taylor and Burton, who put up $1 million of their own money and took a percentage of the profits instead of fixed salaries. All of the actors are so natural in their roles that the sometimes difficult, if not obtuse, Shakespearean verse sounds instead like believable conversation. The film boasts gorgeous sets and costumes; indeed, the films received Oscar nominations for Best Art/Set Decoration and Best Costume Design. Double Sided posters are designed to be seen in light-boxes.
This is a very early example of this type of poster. Today almost all new one sheets are double-sided. The translucence of the material makes the poster shine brightly in a darkened space. This original and rare poster is rolled and in very fine to near mint condition.
