Description
International Historic Films Original Italian Poster (79x55) for the German film THE STATIONMASTER (1940). The German title is DER POSTMEISTER and the film was directed by Gustav Ucicky. The film stars Heinrich George, Hilde Krahl and Siegfried Breuer. The story has been filmed several times. It is based on a story by Alexander Pushkin which was published as part of "The Belkin Tales" in 1931. A French version of the story, NOSTALGIE was made in 1938. This film was produced in Nazi Germany and was shown in many countries in 1940. Made during the period of the Nazi-Soviet pact, it depicts Russians as sympathetic folk, a characterization they would not long enjoy. By 1942, Russians were portrayed as THE RED TERROR, a vicious propaganda movie directed by Karl Ritter. The story is simple: the daughter of the stationmaster runs off to St. Petersburg with an handsome officer. She soon realizes that the man will not marry her. The film was rereleased in Italy in 1951, and it is from this release that we have this poster. An exceptionally good poster with art by Anselmo Ballester. MovieArt Original Film Posters in Austin, Texas guarantees that this poster is authentic.
