In this coming of age saga set in Cleveland in 1951, pre-med student Artie (Hulce) dreams more of a life in the theater than a life in the medical world. Despite having no theater experience, he is hired as the props man at a small summer stock theater. The leading actor of the company (Langella) takes young Artie under his wing to teach him about the theater and life in general. OÕConnor is memorable as the young ingŽnue who breaks HulceÕs heart.
