Private Detective Jake Gittes (Nicholson) takes a seemingly simple case of a philandering husband that ultimately envelops him in a complex web of murder, incest, and municipal corruption on a grand scale. Truly deserving of its place as one of the greatest films of all time, everything about the film-- acting, cinematography, script, atmosphere, and music-- are superb. The film received 11 Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director for Polanski, Best Actor for Nicholson, and Best Actress for Dunaway.
