This film was very popular when it was released, but it's high costs, with its stellar cast, did not allow it to make much money. Still, its reputation is solid as one of the better films of 1986. Factor in a nice score by Georges Delerue and an adapation of her own play by Beth Henley as well as some sumptuous cinematography by Dante Spinotti and you have the makings of some good entertainment. The film is deftly directed by the wonderful Bruce Beresford. These three stars are beautiful on the poster -- they never looked better.
