This was the film debut of Gladys Knight and the played in the film with her real life husband Barry Hankerson. For this movie Gladys Knight was nominated for a Golden Globe as Best New Star of the Year. Her TV career is a bit fuller than her film career, but it is as a singer that Gladys Knight is principally celebrated.
