Universal / MCA Records Original Poster for the Soundtrack Record Release (12x49) Very Fine

A rare and original Soundtrack Record poster from MCA Records, intended for display in retail record stores, for the soundtrack to the Academy Award winning Best Picture THE STING (1973). The film starred Paul Newman and Robert Redford and was directed by George Roy Hill. The album, which was extremely popular for a soundtrack record was executive produced by Gil Rodin. The music for the film was supervised by Marvin Hamlisch. An interesting Oscars statistic, Marvin Hamlisch won all three music-related Oscars inÊ1973! Hamlisch created his own wonderful score for the film, but also was able to summon the era by using the ragtime music of Scott Joplin. The music of Scott Joplin had been largely forgotten until Joshua Rifkin's seminal recordings for Nonesuch Records in the early seventies. ÊBut Hamlisch's score for THE STING really helped to underscore the picture's time and place. Marvin Hamlisch had an amazing career in music and is one of two composers who have won an Oscar, a Grammy, An Emmy and the Pulitzer Prize. (The other is Richard Rodgers.) The poster is unusual in its dimensions; it measures 12x49 inches. Please note this unusual size. We know the poster to be quite scarce and we have not seen in in any auction. Condition is rolled, excellent. MovieArt Austin guarantees that this poster is an authentic point-of-promotion advertisement for this soundtrack. MovieArt does not sell reproductions. Ê
