Description

Original Three Sheet Poster (41 x 81) Linen backed. Restored to very fine.

Amazing portrait of Mildred Harris Chaplin, nee Mildred Harris. Harris was born in Cheyenne Wyoming. She began her career in film in 1911 when she appeared in a western short, THE POST TELEGRAPHER, directed by Francis Ford and Thomas Ince. In the decade of the teens she appeared as a child performer in numerous films, and she was signed by the Oz Film Manufacturing Company to portray various characters in the early Oz movies. Mildred Harris transitioned to adult roles in the 1920s, but not before playing a 15 year old harem girl in D.W. Griffith's INTOLERANCE: LOVE'S STRUGGLE THROUGH THE AGES (1916.) Mildred Harris met Charles Chaplin in 1918, and, after believing that she had become pregnant by him, the couple married in October of 1918. The pregnancy was found to be a false alarm, but the the Chaplins did have a child in July of 1919. The child died three days after birth and by late 1919 the Chaplins had separated. The famous couple were divorced in 1920. Mildred Harris continued to have a career in film and in her lifetime she participated in over 100 different films. She was befriended by Cecil B. DeMille and even appeared in REAP THE WILD WIND, which starred, oddly, another woman who married Charles Chaplin, Paulette Goddard. This three sheet was restored and linen backed. Absolutely authentic. MovieArt Austin will sell no reproductions.
