The film stars Bette Davis, Paul Henreid, Gladys Cooper, Claude Rains, Bonita Granville, and John Loder. The film is very famous, and in war-shocked America in 1942, it must have seemed a bit exotic as well. Davis is the Plain Jane daughter of a stern, somewhat cold mother. Approaching middle age, her own aspirations are repressed. Then there is a crisis, and she sees a psychiatrist, well performed, as always, by Claude Raiins. He tells her to get away from Mom, spread her wings, become herself. So she takes a trip to Europe, and on the boat she meets a debonair gentleman played by Paul Henried. They hit it off, walk the decks, romance each other, and smoke a lot of cigarettes. If all this sounds corny, well, it isn't exactly. It turns out that the movie was a favorite among die-hard Davis fans. The Max Steiner score is memorable. This smaller French poster is theater-used and would benefit from linen-backing.
